Anita Paige - Wonderful Wire
Born and raised in Wyoming, Anita Paige had no idea she would be joining the artist's world, although she grew up surrounded by artisans. Introduced to wire work while temporarily living in Anchorage, Alaska, she brought her enthusiasm for that art form with her to the Black Hills area when she returned to Rapid City.
Her primary interest is making jewelry with wire - but she incorporates beads, shells and other objects in her designs. Working with many kinds of wire, her criterion for any piece of jewelry is that it have some hand-worked wire included in it.
"I enjoy challenging the wire and myself when I work because it is fascinating to see what the wire will do. My first teacher reminded her class that 'you are the master of the wire - it is not the master of you.' There are times when this contest of mastery comes out pretty even, but I'm proud of my successes."
